Diffusione di GNU Linux cosa è cambiato in 5 anni
Nel lontano 2011 scrissi un articolo dal titolo Diffusione di GNU/Linux: di chi � la colpa? dove analizzavo le cause della mancata diffusione dei sistemi operativi GNU/Linux in ambito desktop.
Sono passati ormai cinque anni da quel post e le cose non sono ahim� cambiate e i principali problemi continuano a restare.
Ma andiamo a rianalizzare i problemi che segnalavo nel vecchio articolo.
Lhardware & driver
Il riconoscimento dellhardware � ancora nel limbo. Se avete un prodotto recente non sar� pienamente supportato, se avete uno troppo vecchio potreste trovarvi nella stessa situazione.
Continuano poi i problemi con i driver video che spesso non sono allaltezza della controparte Windows e ci si trova a doversi accontentare delle prestazioni non al top. Questo si vede maggiormente nei giochi ma ci sono anche problemi di compatibilit� per quanto riguarda la gestione dei windows manager dei principali desktop environment: alzi la mano chi non ha mai avuto problemi di tearing video, sia nella riproduzione di filmati che nel muovere semplicemente una finestra di una qualche applicazioni. I fix per questi problemi ci sono, io ne ho catalogati alcuni per le schede nVidia, ma c� sempre da dover smanettare. Ci sono poi casi pi� sfigati come il mio, che mi ritrovo con una scheda video nvidia che ha problemi con GNOME e derivati, problemi che a meno di workaround drastici, mi impediscono di usare i suddetti desktop.
Cambier� mai tutto questo? Difficile dirlo perch� dipende sempre dalla volont� dei produttori e dal futuro dei successori di Xorg: si, successori, perch� abbiamo sia Mir (portato avanti da Canonical) che Wayland (portato avanti dal resto del mondo). Chi la spunter�? Chi vincer� larmatura doro? Chi ci liberer� dai problemi con le schede video?
Chi vivr�... vivr�...
Le killer application
Dal 2011 ad oggi sono arrivati i software professionali? Ni. Dico ni perch� lunica cosa che si � mossa � lato CAD 2D che, grazie allarrivo di DraftSight (disponibile anche in versione gratuita con alcune limitazioni tipo limpossibilit� di lavorare direttamente con i PDF importati) e BricsCAD (a pagamento ma con costi umanamente sostenibili).
Il resto dei software ancora latita e, in caso di stringente necessit� nelluso di un software specifico, ci si deve accontentare di usare Wine e sperare di non avere problemi nellemulazione (e lo sappiamo che shit happens).
Lato killer application possiamo includere i giochi ma Steam, a quanto pare, non riesce ancora a decollare su piattaforma Linux, vuoi per la mancanza di titoli tripla A che per i soliti problemi di prestazioni dei driver video.
I grandi utenti e la Pubblica Amministrazione
Qui ci sono alti e bassi. Da un lato abbiamo importanti progetti di migrazione sia a livello globale che italiano con LibreItalia sta portando avanti il progetto di migrazione del Ministero della Difesa o la dichiarazione di intenti del Comune di Roma, dallaltro stiamo assistendo ad alcune inversioni di tendenza come quella della Regione Emilia Romagna che � passata ai servizi cloud di Microsoft oppure i passi indietro da alcuni paventati (ma � da verificare) che si stanno avendo nel Comune di Monaco di Baviera (fra i pionieri delle migrazioni nelle pubbliche amministrazioni) alle decisioni di stati come il Brasile che stanno abbandonando la strada intrapresa nelle amministrazioni precedenti. Speriamo soltanto che il piano di migrazione a LibreOffice della Difesa Italiana prosegua senza intoppi dopo la recente decisione di migrare il parco computer della Difesa a Windows 10. Per avere una panoramica di quello che si sta facendo vi invito a cercare sul blog il tag Pubblica Amministrazione.
La piccola utenza
Qui, da quanto vedo in lungo e in largo, si � avuta una flessione nelladozione di Linux nella piccola utenza. Il motivo principale? Windows 10. Tocca ammetterlo, a parte i problemi legati agli aggiornamenti forzosi e alle accuse legate alla lesa maest� della privacy degli utenti quelli di Microsoft hanno fatto un buon lavoro con Windows 10 e su alcune macchine datate (ho sperimentato in prima persona su diversi PC) Windows 10 gira meglio dei desktop environment pi� famosi.Resta poi lassenza in commercio di computer equipaggiati con sistemi Linux e quindi la piccola utenza si trova, anche nel nuovo, ad abbracciare il sistema operativo di casa Microsoft.
La logica del castello e la frammentazione
Nel vecchio articolo avevo coniato la teoria della logica del castello. In cosa consiste? Be, nella continua presa di posizione da parte di alcuni utenti e programmatori che portano avanti la loro visione a discapito del bene comune, del realizzare qualcosa che va bene per tutti.
E indovinate un po? C� ancora questo atteggiamento. Assistiamo ancora alle solite discussioni su quale sia il desktop migliore, su quale sia il file manager migliore e abbiamo moltiplicato le soluzioni ai problemi. Prendete Xorg dove abbiamo visto la nascita di Mir e Wayland. Stessa considerazione la possiamo fare per quanto riguarda la gestione pacchetti: da un lato abbiamo Canonical con il suo Snap, dallaltro abbiamo il resto del mondo con FlatPak. Come potete ben capire siamo sempre alle solite, anzich� portare avanti un progetto con contributi di tutti preferiamo farne due. E chi ci perde in tutto questo? Tutti, sia noi utenti, che chi scrive software e vuole fare il porting del proprio software per Linux.
I Big del mondo GNU/Linux
Negli anni trascorsi Red Hat, Canonical, e Novell si sono buttati su mercati per loro pi� redditizi come il Cloud e OpenStack. Il desktop? Non pervenuto.
Solo qualche portatile Dell con Ubuntu (lXPS 13 Developer Edition) che per� ha prezzi alti in linea con la categoria degli ultrabook e mercato di nicchia.
Canonical sta anche provando a entrare nel mercato della telefonia mobile con il suo Ubuntu Phone OS ma senza riuscire ad avere risultati, anche perch� il mercato mobile � ormai dominato da iOS e Android e non c� spazio per altri, specie se non si hanno le killer application che la gente vuole sul proprio smartphone senza sentirsi emarginato dal resto del mondo.
E tu che gi� usi GNU/Linux?
Noi continuiamo, anche se meno numerosi di prima, a portare avanti i principi del software libero e di quello open source ma non possiamo fare poi molto, forse lunica cosa che possiamo fare � quella di smettere di usare termini come "alternativa a" quando parliamo di software libero e open source ma definiamoli per quel che sono ovvero semplicemente software. Poi lasciamo allutente la decisione in merito, se sono o meno software validi e utili al loro scopo.

Devil May Cry 3: Dantes Awakening was released in 2005 exclusively for the PlayStation 2 console. Developed by Capcom, Devil May Cry 3: Dantes Awakening is the third installment in the dark, action/adventure franchise. Rated "M for Mature" by the Entertainment Software Rating Board, the game features an incredible amount of blood, violence, gore and some challenging missions, including Mission 5, for which you might need the help of some cheats.
Finding the Soul of Steel
The Soul of Steel is needed in order to clear several obstacles in Mission 5 of Devil May Cry 3: Dantes Awakening. It can be found in a room at the top of the stairs near a group of Hell Pride enemies. Once inside the room, you can use Vajura on the mechanism in order to lift the cage off the stairs. Here youll find the Soul of Steel, which is not only required to complete the mission but also is required to access the secret mission that can be found in this level.
Secret Mission No. 2
Secret mission No. 2 can be accessed during Mission 5. To do so, youll need to use the Soul of Steel on the big door after collecting the blue orb fragment. After entering the door, press Circle near the box on the wall near the rune clock.
The object of secret mission No. 2 is to defeat all of the enigmas without being damaged. The easiest way to do this is to jump continually to avoid their blades, attacking whenever you have the opportunity. Finishing secret mission No. 2 yields another blue orb fragment.
Boss Strategy
The boss fight at the end of Mission 5 consists of two twin fighters: Agni and Rudra. They employ a variety of sword attacks and can be quite challenging without the correct strategy. The easiest way to defeat these two bosses is by striking them immediately after they attack. Doing so will knock the sword out of their hands, which will allow you to attack again and inflict the maximum amount of damage.
Another good strategy to defeating Agni and Rudra is to reduce the health of both fighters significantly before finishing them off. Once the first fighter is defeated, the remaining fighter will use a new set of sword attacks that are even more powerful than before. You can reduce the amount of time youll have to withstand these stronger attacks by making sure both twins are heavily damaged before finishing either of them off for good.

A Nippon Ichi America lan�ou nesta semana dois trailers de apresenta��o de dois personagens do vindouro (e aguardado) Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance, mostrando Red Magnus e Usalia. Ambos s�o dem�nios Overlords de Netherworld, uma esp�cie de dem�nio "super-mega-overpower", tanto de poder quanto de influ�ncia), que ajudar�o o protagonista a derrotar o vil�o Void Dark.
O primeiro � receber o trailer foi Red Magus, um Overlord de Scorched Flame, com a capacidade de aumentar de tamanho para causar danos maiores sobre seus inimigos. Ele j� era conhecido de Seraphina, a hero�na do novo game, desde eventos antecessores � Disgaea 5.
O segundo personagem � Usalia, uma Overlord de Toto Bunny, um local geralmente habitado por dem�nios pac�ficos. Por�m, ela acabou sendo amaldi�oada por um feiti�o de Void Dark que a obriga comer Curry, comida que detestava mas agora se tornou uma de suas favoritas. Por culpa disso, agora ela busca vingan�a.
A produtora tamb�m colocou no ar o site chamado Disgaea 5: Alliance Match Maker, que permite o jogador criar um perfil e sua pr�pria "alian�a". O resultado � que se voc� entrar na brincadeira, ser� recompensado com um �cone baixavel e informa��es sobre suas alian�as.

Heres a very useful tip for Act 5 in ROS. Some of the larger carts and destructibles in Act V can hold chests underneath them. You can find resplendent chests by flipping over carts and breaking other destructibles.
Also note that there are alot of pots and chests in the graveyard and in the earlier parts of the act.
So dont skip over breakable items anymore, since they can yeild some really great things! (like legendaries)

digiKam 5.1.0 just recently released, introduces a new huge bugs triage and some fixes following first feedback from end-users. This release update internal Libraw to last public and pre-release version 0.18.0.

Discovering Tactical JRPGs 5 Tactical JRPGs Id Like To Try
Playing Fire Emblem is an incredibly rewarding experience that is the perfect continuation to my journey into tactical RPGs and definitely making me even more excited about them. I�m really enjoying strategising battles in a new way and it�s easy to pick up the systems because they mostly use mechanics such as status effects and elemental damage that are already familiar to the turn-based JRPG player as well. I once ignorantly shrugged off a bunch of interesting looking tactical RPGs as being too difficult or too different to what I was used to, but now I think they a good challenge and change of pace for someone like me who plays mostly turn-based JRPGs. Disgaea 5
Disgaea looks ridiculous and thats exactly why I want to play it. Any game that allows players to reach beyond the usual level 99 to level 9999 is a game that deserves my attention and probably all of my trophy hunting ways (except no, because that would probably take years). My brother is a huge fan of the Disgaea series and tells me of these strange, random jokes about sardines and even during 10 minutes of Disgaea 5, there were enough lines about Seraphina being the Overload of Gorgeous to satisfy the side of me that loves humourous JRPGs.While I usually like playing stories in order when I can, Disgaea 5 is on PS4 and looks beautifully smooth and is said to have all the best bits from the previous Disgaea games and more. From the trailer alone, there�s plenty of in-your-face music, epic battles and silliness to make me think this tactical RPG will be a fun and original experience.

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor
I want to keep playing more 3DS games and tactical RPGs seem to fit well on the console, so playing Devil Survivor seems to make sense considering my enjoyment of Persona (another Shin Megami Tensei spinoff series). Devil Survivor is part decision-based visual novel and tactical RPG, a fusion of genres that sounds right up my alley considering I love seeing the effect of decisions on a story. It seems like a good chance to enjoy the gameplay I like from Persona in a new way while experiencing another interesting story and a good way to go a little further in the Shin Megami Tensei series.You can pick up Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor from Play-Asia.com!*

Since so many JRPGs are being released in the later portion of 2016, I don�t know when I�ll get around to actually playing these, but I�m definitely intrigued by tactical RPGs at the moment. Ill always love turn-based JRPGs but having a new way to experience the JRPG stories I love has been really refreshing and has made playing JRPGs even more fun. Tactical JRPGs are great for players who enjoy more strategy based games and I�m glad they�re around as another way to give variety of the JRPG genre and to give players a new way to experience JRPG stories and gameplay._________________________________________________________________________________

Destiny Day 1 5 Impressions

So, Destiny is out. I picked up my copy and got a fair bit of time in on the first day and a little more this afternoon. Not sure if I�ll be doing a full review, but I figured I�d throw some impressions up in no particular order�

>Great graphics (duh) tight controls, and getting your own speederbike is pretty rad.

>As a story-centric player, Im craving a lot more than what Destiny offers. I dont need 15,000 books of lore or a cutscene every three minutes, but I�m just not getting any good mental hooks for me here� For example, your character is revived from the dead after a long, long time, so� Whats up with that? Nobody even blinks at it � including your own character!
And seriously, Light and Darkness? Give me a break, it couldn�t possibly be any more clich�.
There seem to be plenty of ideas here, but Bungie just does not deliver on any of them. In another instance, it seems like there are PVP factions with in-game leaders � a perfect time to introduce a salty character or two, but they�re just flat questgiver types.
It�s almost like Bungie are intentionally keeping everything as bland, broad and inoffensive as possible in order to grab as many players as possible, but it has the opposite effect for me. I want some memorable faces, I want some crazy dialogue.. some personality!
(Side note: the in-game lore is that actually exists is apparently only readable on Bungies website? WTF?)

>I really, really dont like Peter Dinklage�s voice here. Even though he�s supposed to be a robot of sorts, he sounds so totally flat and uninteresting. I dont feel any attachment to him at all, and I wish I could customize the voice into something peppier. He�s a major drag.

Punching enemies feels massively satisfying, and it wasnt long before I got some health and stamina increases. Unfortunately, it seems like the devs are expecting me to be using different kinds of weapons that I am � the buffs installed in some of my fancier armor are for gun types I never use. Hopefully that will change later.

>The farming missions are boring. All you do is basically kill people, pick up X things, or make your way to a certain location and scan something. I quickly abandoned them in favor of the story missions, but those haven�t exactly lit my world on fire, either.
Shooting stuff is fun and Destiny feels great in that sense � the moment-to-moment gunplay is fab for sure. That said, I�m not sure how long pure shooting is going to carry me if the story doesn�t pick up. The armor and weapon drops haven�t exactly been awe-inspiring, either� A lot of standard weapon types and incremental upgrades, but nothing really wild or impressive yet.

As someone who played and completed the campaign inDefiance, I�ve already seen a game that does what Destiny is trying to do. My full review is here, and it�s actually free-to-play on every platform last time I checked � PS3/360/PC.

Of course, Bungie has technical prowess that Defiance�s devs could only dream of� No question there.
On the other hand, Defiance�s world was always humming, it had plenty of interesting modes and varied quests, exploring the open world offered its own interesting rewards and there was enough story to keep me going until the end of its beefy campaign.
With a $500M investment behind it, I�m sure that Destiny is going to keep growing and evolving (and hey, I�m not even done with the campaign yet, so this isnt a final judgment) but my first impressions are of a slick presentation on top of an empty core, and I admit Im wondering what lies in store for its future...
