The Diablo III beta is currently undergoing maintenance as we prepare to deploy the next beta patch. We anticipate that downtime will last for about 8 to 9 hours, until approximately 8:00 p.m./9:00 p.m. PDT. Please note that Beta Patch 16 will include a character wipe. As with previous character wipes, this wipe will also affect gold, achievements, items, followers, and artisans. Thank you for your patience! Edited by Lylirra on 4/9/12 12:10 PM (PDT) |

Diablo II Getting Ladder Only Runewords Working In Single Player Mode Without Any Addons Updated for Patch 1 14d
Diablo II Getting Ladder Only Runewords Working In Single Player Mode Without Any Addons Updated for Patch 1 14d
[This post is currently being uploaded as Text Only for now - I will add images and some screenshots to it Soon]
[Update 2016-06: As of Patch 1.14, where the save game information is kept has changed. I have tested this process and all changes are noted within**, including relocation of Runes.txt placement. This process still works as of this Patch.]
[Update 2016-07-03: As of Patch 1.14d, the save game information has been reverted by Blizzard back to the older instructions. The section at the bottom, talking about creating the Subfolders and Runes.txt in the Windows User location is not needed in 1.14D - the steps talking about creating Subfolders and the Runes.txt are still required overall though, but work once again for the Game Installation location itself - tested this as of this Update ...date.]
[Personal note at end certain Runewords are not working?]
http://gametipsandmore.blogspot.ca/2014/06/diablo-ii-getting-scrollwheel-to-work.html
After setting up the mouse-wheel once again, I started up a Single-Player game and made a character for it [a Necromancer, as I love Summoners]. I had collected some Runes for Runewords in the past, archiving them for SinglePlayer with The Hero Editor, a small utility that can save items found in Single Player Mode, by Exporting them to files on a local system/disk (as Diablo 2 Item [.d2i] files), which can then be Imported at a later time, into a future Character in Single Player Mode [only] through the same utility [which was "written mainly by Shokaku and ZonFire99" according to the ReadMe file for it].
Using the Hero Editor, I imported past runes and gems into my new character, using the Horadric Cube to create higher Runes I needed, for creating some Runewords. After trying to create an Enigma armor, I found that it was a Runeword that was not craftable in Single Player Mode (when trying to create it, the item simply fills up with the Runes used and utilizes the bonuses from the single Runes themselves, not creating the Special Item that the Runeword would normally create, in an online, BattleNet game).
Searching online for some clues as to what could be done, I found in a few forums, mention of Addons that could possibly be used to create Ladder-Only Runewords in Single Player games. For now, I went looking for ways to craft Runewords in D2 without Addons. What I found, were various instructions to create a Text file in a created Subdirectory of Diablo2, where the Single Player game would use it as a source for Runewords... great! The only issue was that there seemed to be some variance for how the Subfolders should be created/named, to make the Text file work (there were multiple versions of information on what the subfolders should be).
Experimenting on my own then, I found the path of folders that would need to be created within the Diablo2 directory, in order to get this Text file to work. Just to summarize again, what this will do is:
Allow Diablo II to use Ladder-Only Runewords in Single Player games, by reading Runeword information from a Text file (with no outside Addons or Mods needed to do so)
To do this, here is the working folder structure to create in the Diablo II directory:
<D2 installation folder>/Data/Global/Excel/Runes.txt
The steps to create the above folder structure are:
- in the Diablo II directory, create a New Folder called Data
- in the newly-created Data folder, create a New Folder called Global
- in the newly-created Global folder, create a New Folder called Excel
- in the newly-created folder called Excel, place the Text file from my PasteBin here:
http://pastebin.com/xGLWhmZ1(If you do not feel comfortable Downloading anything at all for this procedure, simply copy and paste the text from that website and paste it into a text file, one that you create in the Excel folder, within the Diablo II directory structure you just created via the above - be sure to name the text file Runes.txt) - lastly, add "-direct" and "-txt" to the Shortcut Properties for the "Diablo II.exe" file that starts up the game. The quotation marks arent added, only the commands, such that the Target line in the Shortcut should then look like this:
"C:Program Files (x86)Diablo IIDiablo II.exe" -direct -txt
(the above line assumes that it is installed into the C: drive of the system. If you installed Diablo2 into a different drive/partition, the first letter would be whatever your drive letter is of where D2 is installed - the main part to match is the end portions, the "-direct -txt" added to the end, which allows usage of the Text file used in this process)
Thats it!
What should occur in theory is, Diablo2 will use the Runeword information from that text file, allowing Runewords to now function within the Single Player game mode (even ones that are "Ladder Only")!
After "cubing-up" some new Runes that I did not have [using a Hero Editor to save/import the ones I had], I created an Enigma Runeword armor. Then, to specifically test the procedure above with a "Ladder-Only Runeword", I attempted to create an Insight for my Merc - and it worked! Hopefully, this will help you utilize Runewords in Single Player, too.
Note: Although I talked about a utility called Hero Editor within this post, it is not a required aspect of the steps above [ie. I use it for Item saving, not Runeword creation]. Also, although an "Excel" folder is created, neither Microsoft Office nor Excel or any other Spreadsheet-type of application need be present on the system - only a simple Text file and a few New Folders created are all that is needed.
** Update for Patch 1.14:
The file structure has changed, for where the game saves your character files, as of this Patch.
While I am not a developer for Blizzard, looking at the effects this Patch will have with Windows, I assume this was done to create a maintainable save game system for people upgrading from Windows 7/8/8.1 to Windows 10, as upgrading Windows [or reinstalling the game itself, if needed] will then not affect your save games in any way and they can then still be found by Diablo 2 (Single Player, etc) [by using this new directory setup implemented in 1.14].
As of Patch 1.14, your save game information is now located at:
C:/Users/<YOUR USER NAME>/Saved Games/Diablo II/
Your saved games, maps and characters are all now within that folder above [assuming C: as your Windows Installation Drive/Location, or where Windows and Saved Games can be found].
To continue using Runewords in Single Player with Patch 1.14, simply create new folders within (the Data folder may already be present), so that your file structure looks like this:
C:/Users/<YOUR USER NAME>/Saved Games/Diablo II/Data/Global/Excel/Runes.txt
Placing the Runes.txt folder within the Excel folder, as shown above, will then allow you to continue using Runewords in Single Player with the new file structure utilized in Patch 1.14 [personally tested as of 2016-06-06].
Tip: Dont forget to add "-direct" and "-txt" to the Shortcut Properties for the "Diablo II.exe", if needed, so that the end of the Shortcut Target line looks like this:
... Diablo IIDiablo II.exe" -direct -txt
Enjoy - and See You In The Game sometime on BattleNet!
[Personal Log, Regarding Addons, Mods and Utilities: Just a quick mention of my remark regarding without any addons above - I have used Addons, Mods and Utilities in the past, with games, and will likely do so in the future - however, mostly for security reasons, I normally do not and usually advise others against them at first. I realize that most of them are safe, hence my own usage of addons, mods and utilities at times; but because of the chance to encounter security risks, I usually advise against them initially, if people ask me for input. In the end though, most Addons, Mods and Utilities for most games are Safe and offer great functionality, the result of many hours of hard work that their creators have poured into them (if you use Addons or Mods or Utilities for games and you liked them, let their creators know, if you can)]
[Because this post is over a year old now, I have made a newer one (here at the blog, in June/July 2016) talking about this process again, with a bit more detailed instructions (a few screenshots showing the process) - along with my experiences of installing/playing D2 in Windows 10 - if its not on the front page anymore, that article can be located by going direct to the blog posting here.]
[It seems that certain Runewords were not working for some people, according to various forum posts, using Add-Ons and other methods. For example, the Runeword EDGE, did not work for some. I have personally created INSIGHT and other Runewords, so this was puzzling. I investigated this potential limitation and found that it may be due to either limitations in the Add-On/Program being used, or the Runes.txt file itself containing Commas, which can occur if the file is opened in a Spreadsheet application (which may turn the file into a Comma-delimited format (using Commas to separate sections)) - be sure to utilize my methods above and the text direct from my Pastebin source (copying it into a Text file or downloading it as a Text file), or use the text I re-pasted into a Code area at my newer article on this, here, copying it in to a Text file and placing it into the Data/Global/Excel subfolder. As of 2016-07-06 I personally tested the Runeword EDGE and it worked using these methods. I hope it works for you as well!]

Diablo 3 Patch 2 0 1 is Live
The major patch removing the auction house, adding loot 2.0 and more is now up, below is the list of changes.
- Major Changes:
-With the exception of Torment Only Legs, all legs can drop at all levels. The item level will match your char level.
-Loot 2.0 contains Smart Loot which means you have a higher chance to get items with affixes suited to your character. Not all drops are smart loot though so you can find things for alts.
-Paragon 2.0: Paragon levels converted to account wide paragon. Each character will have paragon points to spend.
-Many many class changes
-Neph Valor removed. No more prepping to do a run.
-MF no longer on items. Legacy MF is reduced to 10% of full stat.
-Lifesteal removed and legacy items will have reduced effects past 60. Replaced by several other healing mechanics
-Normal, Nightmare, Hell, Inferno removed. MP removed.
-Monster Density adjusted. It will be lower than MP 10 levels to resolve game and server issues however you should not encounter big areas without anything in it.
- Additions:
-Play through Acts only once instead of four times (unless you want to do it again)
-Monsters now scale to your level so you always get max XP. Item drops will be for your level.
-Leveling speed increased at least for paragon levels
-New difficulty system. Normal, Hard, Expert, Master, Torment 1-6.
-Torment has Torment only lvl 70 Legs (RoS), chance at Imperial gems dropping from lvl 61 and up mobs (RoS), increased Leg find rates. UBERS is now Torment only.
-Torment unlocks at 60 now.
-Updates to some boss fights
-Neph Glory: new globe drop that gives a buff that can stack up to 3 times. Modified by some skills.
-Survival Bonus Added: Pools of Reflection give you a bonus pool of XP worth 25% of the XP you need to get to next level. These stack. If you die you lose the bonus.
-Leveling characters is much more rewarding in addition to being fast. Blues and Rares now awarded for some quests.
-Destructables (barrels, urns, bodies, stumps, etc) can be rewarding. Most are empty but sometimes you get a rain of gold, blue, rare, or Legendary items. Based on RoS Beta playthrough.
-Clans and Communities added (these show lobby style avatars of your characters like D2)
-New Map GUI: You can jump to any unlocked waypoint in the Act by hitting M. No need to physically be at a waypoint anymore.
- Crafting and Other Stuff:
-Crafting mats now stack much higher. May be converted to a currency system at some point to further free up space.Tomes of Secret removed. Converted to DE.
-Updates to graphics, game optimization, etc. Many report less rubberbanding and less asset load lag.
-Potions come in one type, stack to 100, and are auto pick up like gold
- Further Item Changes
-New Loot 2.0 Legs can be given to those in party who were there when they dropped for up to 2 hours. They become BOA after that.
-Gold is BOA*
-Marquise gems and up are BOA
-Common Debris and RoS crafting mats are BOA
-Rares modified by the Mystic (RoS) are BOA
-Legacy Legendary items can still be traded/given
-Legacy crafting mats can be traded
-Standard Rares, blues, whites can be traded/given.
*With the AH still in the game at patch time it is unknown how gold will actually be dealt with. Possible that we cant trade between chars but can use on GAH. Will have to see how it works when it comes up.
- RoS Prep Notes:-Legacy Legendary items will not unlock Transmog Skins on the Mystic. This includes Un-ID items. Dont waste gold buying them.
-Legacy Legendary items can not be enchanted by the Mystic in RoS. The old affix system is not compatible with the new affix system she uses. This probably applies to all Legacy gear.
-New Loot 2.0 Legendary Items and Rares that drop after the patch CAN be enchanted by the Mystic in RoS.
-If you have good Legs/BiS gear now, it will be useful for leveling up come RoS and will eventually be replaced in the mid 60s to 70 range.
-Marquise gems start dropping in RoS from level 61 and up mobs, even on Normal Difficulty. Think carefully before wasting gold on them.
- What features are ROS Only?:-Act V
-Crusader
-Adventure Mode w/ Rifts and Bounties
-Mystic
-4th Stash Tab

Diablo Patch 1 0 3 IAS Change and Inferno ilvls
Diablo Patch 1 0 3 IAS Change and Inferno ilvls
With D3s new patch launching today, here are a couple main topics that I am betting on to maximize my RMAH sales, Increased Attack Speed change and ilvl farming/pricing items differently than pre patch. As with any patch/change/nerf/hotfix, there are many, many possibilities to profit, and this post covers a few. Enough jibber jabber, here you go:
Full Patch Notes can be seen at: http://d3db.com/news/id/271-official-10310057-patch-notes/
Changes to Increased Attack Speed:
Upon reading the "nerf" patch notes, a few things popped out, but not as much for the "salesman" as IAS. It is getting "fixed", supposedly decreasing its power. Well, that is how the blues note it....but heres the kicker....they are not adjusting the quivers (which I have already stocked up a few decent ones), so keep that in mind with the new pricing (or your "flipping" items).
There is alot of slam and chat about selling off the gears with IAS stats, so I will be on a quick search when servers come up and also throughout the weekend to snatch up some good deals. My personal feeling is that if they are to adjust the gear #s, they will only be able to do so on "new" items, so those items with the 2.1-2.6 speed you have now will be safe.....new items might be topping out at 1.1-1.6. Sure, this assumption could be totally wrong, and the nerf could come about in some other way, but really....how can you nerf a percentage without changing it all together? Its kinda like brushing your teeth with oreos. Kinda defeats the purpose....
ilvl Drop Changes
I wasnt sure how to title this one, so bear with me, because I have an influx of information for you. First, Blizz has decided that since the whole Diablo series is about "farming" and not gameplay (as opposed to the ever evolving WoW expansions), and all the QQing on the forums (its not easy, derp herp derpity doo), they gave us a list of what the RNG (random number generator- i.e. estimated droprates) are going to be set in the patch:

What this shows me is more competition on "end game" gear, as farming at lower levels will produce better and more consistent gears...
Ok, okay. Now you are wondering about ilvls. Well, Blizz noted that this would be added in a future patch (in some sort of tooltip), but if it doesnt happen today, heres a quick list (obviously, this is geared toward end game items). Sure, you can go to the http://us.battle.net/d3/en/item/ website, look everything up, or you can just view these (spreadsheet found on the internets, not sure of its location, so I cannot take credit for its work or errors that might be within):

As for pricing this gear, its not as easy as "I list all ilvl 61s at 400K, 62s at 1-3mil, and 63s at 5-10mil". However, that can be a safe bet, believe it or not. Since there are literally thousands of different items and setups that occur on a strictly random basis (RNG), its all about stats, baby.
The best way I have figured to find my price-points is to do a top three stats on your gear search and post accordingly. Sure, some say undercut heavy (by 25-50%) and make more sales or undercut slightly and it will still sell, just give it time....and really, its up to you to decide. Both situations work, its up to you and the [unknown] buyer that defines which is best.
I am hoping to post a bit more consistently, however it will only be on D3 until WoW gets more love in the upcoming xpac.
To answer other questions: My main is a Barbarian. No, I havent killed Diablo Inferno (Seige on two death farm). Yes, I farm pony level (hell) and Act 1/2. Yes, I have sold items on RMAH (only 61$ so far, averaging 3-4$ per sale). No, I do not sit on the AH like I did in WoW, I actually enjoy the game. And no, I have not paid more than 500K for any item bought off the gold auction house and I am still decently geared (but not where I want to be). And last but not least:
I am not a Diablo III guru. I am a former WoW AH "pro" and still working on figuring out who/what/when/where and why D3 seems to be so appealing to me on so many levels....
Till next time,
Alto.

Diablo 3 Patch 1 0 8 Features Increased Mob Density Multi Crafting Class Item Changes AH Tooltips and more
Diablo 3 Patch 1 0 8 Features Increased Mob Density Multi Crafting Class Item Changes AH Tooltips and more
Blizzard tracker: March 5, 2012
Here are some upcoming 1.0.8 features posted by Travis Day at the official forums:
Source
Ok Ive finally caught up on all the responses in every location I could find them! This blog was written a while ago and between when I wrote it and when we released it a lot more relevant ideas came up so I want to mention a couple of them. Im going to keep this short and to the point so I can get back to working on actually improving the game instead of talking about it. ;)
Below is a list of things that players can hopefully expect to see as soon as patch 1.0.8.
Mob density
Acts 1, 2, and 4 will be receiving some adjustments in Inferno difficulty games. We want to try to make all of the acts as comparable as possible so that players dont feel they always have to farm the same areas of the game repeatedly, diversity is the spice of life.
Multi Craft
We want to make it easier to craft lots of items, so we plan on giving players the ability to specify how many of an item they want to craft and then to make that many. Want to make 20 Archon Shoulders of Dexterity? Cool, push the button and watch it go.
AH tooltip compare
Ever wish you could compare the item you are thinking about buying with the item you are wearing? You want it, we want it, and we hope to have it in game soon.
In addition to the changes we introduce in 1.0.8 we also have longer term plans to address issues that need more attention. I mentioned a lot of these long term plans in the blog and outlined some of our philosophies that will drive the itemization of Diablo forward. One of those ideas that I saw mentioned repeatedly in response to the blog is the fact that class specific items can roll non class appropriate primary stats, we have plans to change this down the road. While random really is at the core of Diablo in so many ways this is certainly one of the areas where it has no potential to benefit players. Wizards dont use Strength, Demon Hunters dont use Intelligence so lets just remove those as potential random attributes on Orbs and Quivers respectively.

Diablo 3 Patch 1 0 3 Act 2 Farming Spot Not Nerfed
Diablo 3 Patch 1 0 3 Act 2 Farming Spot Not Nerfed

My favorite farm at the moment is a slight adjustment of this video:
Here is the steps for this quick run:
Act II- Blood and Sand

Start with "Path to the Oasis"
See the little pothole to the left? Yeah. Thats the "Ruined Cistern" cave. Go there. Inside, you will see two to three sets of champions as well as about a 30% or so chance of a treasure goblin inside. Boom, Bam, Done. Knock them out, only takes about 5 minutes.
Now, Hit up what the video shows with the "Road to Alcarnus" and getcha another Goblin. Boom, Bam, Done. Whats that? You didnt watch the video? Okay. Take the waypoint, clear out the tiny little circle of mobs around the little blue circle, and if you dont see a Goblin, logout, rinse/repeat.
Thats the farm route. A couple Vapor stacks and two goblins (well, most runs I get one, and I would say about one in three will get you both). Make sure you are looking out for fortune shrines as they give a little boost to drops, and depending on your DPS and gearing/toon, you might be able to run this route in full Magic Find Gear and rock the house....Auction House that is.
Sure, you can run around and farm up 5 stacks, hit champ packs over and over for hours on end, or do this run in less than 10 minutes. Time is money friend, and using this little farm, you need less time to getcha goldies!
Alto.
