Diablo 2 Ladder Reset May 2012 with Screenshots
Diablo 2 Ladder Reset May 2012 with Screenshots

For those of you still playing Diablo2 off and on, a new season of Ladder starts the 2nd of May, 2012! Dont worry, Blizzard has stated that it is NOT, I repeat, it is not the last ladder reset of D2, just because D3 is coming out:
See that, Other Game Companies? Thats how you keep your customer base coming back for more... Thank you, Blue.
Heck there are still tens of thousands of players online and many more messing around on Single Player. I myself have recently been trying out The Cheat Engine on Single Player, but with the Hero Editor there is really no need, as you can give your character level 90+, level 90+ skills and max out your stash with goldz for gambling. Do a few Boss Runs, save the items as files, then you can import them into the other characters! I hope Diablo3 has this sort of thing... I dont want to sound like that forum guy/girl, but I may not purchase Diablo3 if it doesnt have Single Player. Even the annoying must-have-an-internet-connection Single Player is fine, as long as cheats and utilities are allowed for those of us who want to beef up our characters. [Must not... include rant about online single player games and them not working when servers/companies go down and how they should all be like Diablo2...]
Speaking of D3 (a separate post will be made about the beta), it seems like Gold and other things are all server-side. This makes sense, since D3 items are going to be able to be sold for "Real Life Money" and you dont want some hackers giving their characters a million goldz to sell for real cash. However, again, for those of us who like to supe-up our characters, the ability to have (built in?) cheats of some sort would be nice for isolated/offline single player gameplay. I purposely do not read/view too much on a game before it comes out and I havent heard anything about Single Player in D3 and how its going to be handled yet.
Distraction! This is a post about Diablo2, and so lets bring it back with some screenshots:
![]() |
| My Necro in NM Den. If you can change the game running from DirectDraw to DirectX, I highly recommend it. The shading and colors are superior. |
![]() |
| My Barbarian following in a Chaos and Baal Run in Nightmare. Yup, thats what I call the Necromancer Clay Golems. |
![]() |
| My Hydra Sorceress running Hell Countess for Runes. My strategy was usually to teleport to her [I miss the old 3-level Tower] and then let the hydras kill her and her guards off. Pretty easy with decent Hydras. The one Hydra on me is for defence of the position. |
![]() |
| Ahh! This is what happens when you dont play your characters for 90 Days and someone takes your name before you sign in again. Drat, I dont mind losing the item holders but she was a good sorc. Oh well, a chance to make new! |
![]() |
| My 83 Wind Druid on Ladder. I was in the top 10 at the beginning, then stayed in the top 50 for a while, but I just cant keep playing and keep up. It was fun for a while anyway and I got some fast levels with good groups. |
![]() |
| My Windy Druid found Ali Baba, woot! Whats the best character to MF with these days? |
![]() |
| Going through some items from Ladder on my Item Holders and found Warshrike, a nice throwing dagger weapon. Now wheres my Throwing Barb again? |
![]() |
| Found Jalals Mane for my Bear Druid. Yesss! |
![]() |
| My Bear Druids Stun Strategy. Want easy PvM (player versus monster) fights? Just level a Druid to 24 and get Shockwave. Coupled with a nice strong Grizzly, just Stun-Em-And-Run-Em: Shockwave stun and let your merc and grizz clear em out. The only thing you have to worry about is what loot to pick up when its all over. |
![]() |
| My Necromancer can use Charged Bolt! Ok, he cant, but my Bonemancer entering Hell WSK looks like he does in this screenshot, due to some Lightning Enchantedseses-es near the Waypoint. Dont forget kids, if you hold the mouse farther away from your character when you cast Teeth, they will come out in a narrower cone, and if you hold the mouse closer to your character, they will come out in a wider spread. |
![]() |
| A quarter of a million gold for dying? Man, I hope this doesnt happen in D3.. Ah, well it was about time for a break anyway.. |
Thats it for now, see you in there!
N.B.: This post has been copy/pasted to a few blogs out there (that seem to mainly just copy/paste others work). This is the original article (our logo is in the screenshots still and they left one of the copyright statement of ours intact). Please ask if you wish to copy/paste entire articles (thank you for the compliment I suppose) and its great if you could just link to this one. Thanks, though.

Diablo II Getting Ladder Only Runewords Working In Single Player Mode Without Any Addons Updated for Patch 1 14d
Diablo II Getting Ladder Only Runewords Working In Single Player Mode Without Any Addons Updated for Patch 1 14d
[This post is currently being uploaded as Text Only for now - I will add images and some screenshots to it Soon]
[Update 2016-06: As of Patch 1.14, where the save game information is kept has changed. I have tested this process and all changes are noted within**, including relocation of Runes.txt placement. This process still works as of this Patch.]
[Update 2016-07-03: As of Patch 1.14d, the save game information has been reverted by Blizzard back to the older instructions. The section at the bottom, talking about creating the Subfolders and Runes.txt in the Windows User location is not needed in 1.14D - the steps talking about creating Subfolders and the Runes.txt are still required overall though, but work once again for the Game Installation location itself - tested this as of this Update ...date.]
[Personal note at end certain Runewords are not working?]
http://gametipsandmore.blogspot.ca/2014/06/diablo-ii-getting-scrollwheel-to-work.html
After setting up the mouse-wheel once again, I started up a Single-Player game and made a character for it [a Necromancer, as I love Summoners]. I had collected some Runes for Runewords in the past, archiving them for SinglePlayer with The Hero Editor, a small utility that can save items found in Single Player Mode, by Exporting them to files on a local system/disk (as Diablo 2 Item [.d2i] files), which can then be Imported at a later time, into a future Character in Single Player Mode [only] through the same utility [which was "written mainly by Shokaku and ZonFire99" according to the ReadMe file for it].
Using the Hero Editor, I imported past runes and gems into my new character, using the Horadric Cube to create higher Runes I needed, for creating some Runewords. After trying to create an Enigma armor, I found that it was a Runeword that was not craftable in Single Player Mode (when trying to create it, the item simply fills up with the Runes used and utilizes the bonuses from the single Runes themselves, not creating the Special Item that the Runeword would normally create, in an online, BattleNet game).
Searching online for some clues as to what could be done, I found in a few forums, mention of Addons that could possibly be used to create Ladder-Only Runewords in Single Player games. For now, I went looking for ways to craft Runewords in D2 without Addons. What I found, were various instructions to create a Text file in a created Subdirectory of Diablo2, where the Single Player game would use it as a source for Runewords... great! The only issue was that there seemed to be some variance for how the Subfolders should be created/named, to make the Text file work (there were multiple versions of information on what the subfolders should be).
Experimenting on my own then, I found the path of folders that would need to be created within the Diablo2 directory, in order to get this Text file to work. Just to summarize again, what this will do is:
Allow Diablo II to use Ladder-Only Runewords in Single Player games, by reading Runeword information from a Text file (with no outside Addons or Mods needed to do so)
To do this, here is the working folder structure to create in the Diablo II directory:
<D2 installation folder>/Data/Global/Excel/Runes.txt
The steps to create the above folder structure are:
- in the Diablo II directory, create a New Folder called Data
- in the newly-created Data folder, create a New Folder called Global
- in the newly-created Global folder, create a New Folder called Excel
- in the newly-created folder called Excel, place the Text file from my PasteBin here:
http://pastebin.com/xGLWhmZ1(If you do not feel comfortable Downloading anything at all for this procedure, simply copy and paste the text from that website and paste it into a text file, one that you create in the Excel folder, within the Diablo II directory structure you just created via the above - be sure to name the text file Runes.txt) - lastly, add "-direct" and "-txt" to the Shortcut Properties for the "Diablo II.exe" file that starts up the game. The quotation marks arent added, only the commands, such that the Target line in the Shortcut should then look like this:
"C:Program Files (x86)Diablo IIDiablo II.exe" -direct -txt
(the above line assumes that it is installed into the C: drive of the system. If you installed Diablo2 into a different drive/partition, the first letter would be whatever your drive letter is of where D2 is installed - the main part to match is the end portions, the "-direct -txt" added to the end, which allows usage of the Text file used in this process)
Thats it!
What should occur in theory is, Diablo2 will use the Runeword information from that text file, allowing Runewords to now function within the Single Player game mode (even ones that are "Ladder Only")!
After "cubing-up" some new Runes that I did not have [using a Hero Editor to save/import the ones I had], I created an Enigma Runeword armor. Then, to specifically test the procedure above with a "Ladder-Only Runeword", I attempted to create an Insight for my Merc - and it worked! Hopefully, this will help you utilize Runewords in Single Player, too.
Note: Although I talked about a utility called Hero Editor within this post, it is not a required aspect of the steps above [ie. I use it for Item saving, not Runeword creation]. Also, although an "Excel" folder is created, neither Microsoft Office nor Excel or any other Spreadsheet-type of application need be present on the system - only a simple Text file and a few New Folders created are all that is needed.
** Update for Patch 1.14:
The file structure has changed, for where the game saves your character files, as of this Patch.
While I am not a developer for Blizzard, looking at the effects this Patch will have with Windows, I assume this was done to create a maintainable save game system for people upgrading from Windows 7/8/8.1 to Windows 10, as upgrading Windows [or reinstalling the game itself, if needed] will then not affect your save games in any way and they can then still be found by Diablo 2 (Single Player, etc) [by using this new directory setup implemented in 1.14].
As of Patch 1.14, your save game information is now located at:
C:/Users/<YOUR USER NAME>/Saved Games/Diablo II/
Your saved games, maps and characters are all now within that folder above [assuming C: as your Windows Installation Drive/Location, or where Windows and Saved Games can be found].
To continue using Runewords in Single Player with Patch 1.14, simply create new folders within (the Data folder may already be present), so that your file structure looks like this:
C:/Users/<YOUR USER NAME>/Saved Games/Diablo II/Data/Global/Excel/Runes.txt
Placing the Runes.txt folder within the Excel folder, as shown above, will then allow you to continue using Runewords in Single Player with the new file structure utilized in Patch 1.14 [personally tested as of 2016-06-06].
Tip: Dont forget to add "-direct" and "-txt" to the Shortcut Properties for the "Diablo II.exe", if needed, so that the end of the Shortcut Target line looks like this:
... Diablo IIDiablo II.exe" -direct -txt
Enjoy - and See You In The Game sometime on BattleNet!
[Personal Log, Regarding Addons, Mods and Utilities: Just a quick mention of my remark regarding without any addons above - I have used Addons, Mods and Utilities in the past, with games, and will likely do so in the future - however, mostly for security reasons, I normally do not and usually advise others against them at first. I realize that most of them are safe, hence my own usage of addons, mods and utilities at times; but because of the chance to encounter security risks, I usually advise against them initially, if people ask me for input. In the end though, most Addons, Mods and Utilities for most games are Safe and offer great functionality, the result of many hours of hard work that their creators have poured into them (if you use Addons or Mods or Utilities for games and you liked them, let their creators know, if you can)]
[Because this post is over a year old now, I have made a newer one (here at the blog, in June/July 2016) talking about this process again, with a bit more detailed instructions (a few screenshots showing the process) - along with my experiences of installing/playing D2 in Windows 10 - if its not on the front page anymore, that article can be located by going direct to the blog posting here.]
[It seems that certain Runewords were not working for some people, according to various forum posts, using Add-Ons and other methods. For example, the Runeword EDGE, did not work for some. I have personally created INSIGHT and other Runewords, so this was puzzling. I investigated this potential limitation and found that it may be due to either limitations in the Add-On/Program being used, or the Runes.txt file itself containing Commas, which can occur if the file is opened in a Spreadsheet application (which may turn the file into a Comma-delimited format (using Commas to separate sections)) - be sure to utilize my methods above and the text direct from my Pastebin source (copying it into a Text file or downloading it as a Text file), or use the text I re-pasted into a Code area at my newer article on this, here, copying it in to a Text file and placing it into the Data/Global/Excel subfolder. As of 2016-07-06 I personally tested the Runeword EDGE and it worked using these methods. I hope it works for you as well!]

Diablo 3 Season and Ladder System Confirmed
Diablo 3 Season and Ladder System Confirmed

Josh Mosqueira has announced that Season and a Ladder-Like-System will be arriving in the first Major Content patch during the Reaper of Souls Release Event. The devs are thinking about adding Seasons-only legendary items, and have hinted at "Tiered Rifts" where players can compete with each other in Adventure mode and fight to the top of leaderboards.
Below is the full information from Blizzard:
Posted by Blizzard:
Seasons And Ladder-Like System
One of the features you guys have asked about a lot, that we have done a lot of research for, is something called ladders. Im happy to say that as part of our first big content patch in a couple of months, we will be releasing Seasons, which will include a ladder-like aspect to them. Were still working on them, but the general gist is that youll level up a new character, well have specific ladders for Seasons, and also some goodies that will drop along the way. Theres more information of that to come, and were not making an announcement of when, but thats coming in the first major content patch - not the first patch, but the first major content patch.
Seasons-Exclusive Legendaries
There will be more legendary items in the future, both for rewards of Ladders, and also rewards from the Tiered Rifts. For the current ones, we probably are not going to revisit them. They all take time to do and Id rather we were adding new legendary items, and the time is better spent on new legendary items than going back to refit old ones.
Tiered Rifts And Leaderboards
There is another major feature in the patch 2.1, which is going to be what were internally calling tiered Rifts. The idea is a challenge scenario, where players do increasingly hard Rifts, to see who can get the farthest. You do your bounties, you do a Nephalem Rift. If you clear it, theres a chance to get a Greater Rift Token. If you successfully do that, youll get a Greater Rift Key (rank 2), then Rank 3, etc.. Much like seasons, were going to have a leaderboard as well, so you can see who got to the highest tier Rift, and what time were they able to obtain on that.

DINKERS MAPS FOR W3A LADDER MAP POOL
DINKERS MAPS FOR W3A LADDER MAP POOL
So far, total of 7 maps are playable and ready to be imported in W3Arena ladder map pool. Testers who played on them and who helped me a lot, were more than happy when they saw how I edited these maps. Thanks to GaBe-, Moscow(Den), Vankor, ArnOrc, RapiNg and others whom I forgot, who were part of this great adventure. Lets hope that the other will like the maps as well. Link to the map pack inside the post.
Maps that have been edited are hard to play. With a lot of new starting possibilities for each race, game variations and required adaption they are way different than the maps that we were used to play. The item distribution from the creeps you kill is also very different. I call it adequate item distribution because the items that you get are balanced when you are looking at the spot you have crept.
Every map, on the maps that we were used to play, was dominated by certain race like Scorched Basin was dominated by Night Elf. I didnt want to change that completely when I was editing Scorched Basin. However, I tried to give the space and some chances to other races as well. So, some maps might have changed their looknfeel but they havent changed their role.
Here are the maps that have been improved so far. They are all at version 1.05.
Lost Temple
When I told my testers, for the first time, that we are going to test out LT, some of them were like "Why the hell did you edit LT? It is balanced." However, when I edited it they understood what was my intention and they loved it. Its much more open, dynamic and requires decent aggression. Some spots have been balanced with additional paths and corners in which expansions were guarded with Golem and his trolling mates are now reachable. Middle is no longer one way in no way out place which was easily dominated by strong ground unit combos and the natural expansions are harder to defend because of additional paths. I have more plans for this map and I believe that it can be even better than it is now.
Plunder Isle
Blizzards Plunder Isle was a disgusting piece of shit. I believe that we all can agree on that. Two races were dominating that map and every game on it was pretty much the same. And there is nothing more disgusting when the map forces you to strict game play. Plunder Isle 2 which was used in W3Aladder was edited by ZeN and me 4-5 years ago and was used in some of the leagues and cups we hosted. It was good with the additional paths to the natural expansion, shops behind the drakes but it had many flaws. I succeeded in correcting them all. Now Plunder Isle is great map because players can use its whole space and combine it with their game play. You just have to see it to understand what I am talking about.
Scorched Basin
What to say about the old Scorched Basin? How many times have you heard - noob ne on sb? Well, Scorched Basin is still an Elf map. No doubt about that. It just requires more adaptation unlike it required in the past. There is more space, creeps are different, there are two merc camps instead of one, middle cannot be as easy taken nor controled. Basically, it is a completely new map which now offers other races decent changes against Night Elf.
Secret Valley
Another map on which Elf had strong domination because of its structure. This map was great example of how the TFT maps cannot be just imported to ROC and played without corrections. After we played several game on it, ArnOrc told me that this one is his favorite map. Perhaps because fountains are now both random instead of both health which gives a nice variation. Middle is different with shops being divided by stones and trees that are making control of both spots very hard. The dynamics is also changed because of additional paths that lead to expansions. The map has everything for all type of players. If you want to creep, go ahead and do it. If you wanna rush and play aggressive, no problem. It is all doable. It all depends of you and your adaptation.
Ruined Rainbow
One of the maps that lost their original look and feel after I edited them. I completely changed the pathing, places of interest, shops and labs placements, creeps. Every inch of the map is potential battlefield because the map space has been exploited to its maximum.
Echo Isles
I seriously regret that I didnt make a completely new map before I started working on Echo Isles. Again, TFT map, imported to ROC without a single correction. Changed places of interest, shops placements, removed that dummy gobs lab from the middle and gave it a proper function on a different place. Changed some creeps and edited terrain so much that it is unrecognizable when you look at both minimaps. RapiNg and Vankor said it is great.
Rift Valley
I said that Rift Valley and Outskirts were the best "handmade" ROC maps. I still think that. However, that doesnt mean that they cant be improved. Rift Valley had some flaws and conflicts with places of interest. Also, the creep structure and camping zones were a bit confusing. I changed that. I also created a place of interest in the middle by changing the creeps and its structure a bit.
I am releasing the link to the public so everyone can enjoy these good maps in their hosting bots, tournaments or even LAN. They are all currently on 1.05 version and will all get updated with the time.
