My airplane seat was next to the window...with a view of a steady white light on the wing. All I could see in the dark. Booooring. And I wanted something to do. I had a camera.

I knew the camera lens would remain open for a bit longer due to the lack of lighting. How much of a squiggle could I create with the wing light during that time? Hmm...could I draw a circle accurately? How about a square? (Okay, so the lens was only open long enough for me to make a hangman shape.)

Hey, why not try my signature! 7809 and 7812 show bad squiggles of "Jo". Increasing exposure to 5 seconds, and with lots more practice, I was able to write the names of people I had just visited on a trip. (My real handwriting is better...but not much!)

By the way, when you do this, your signature comes out upside-down in the camera. Id "write my name" in space, then turn the camera upside-down to see the results. (These images are right-side-up because I flipped the images over for you. Alternate approach: turn the camera upside down before writing your signature.)

Then I got bored with that and snuck back to the stewardess area to do this.

Images as Carriers

Images are a good medium for hiding data (for details, see Pan, Chen, and Tseng 3 ). The more detailed an image, the fewer constraints there are on how much data it can hide before it becomes suspect. The JPHide/JPSeek package (http://linux01.gwdg.de/~alatham/stego.html) uses the coefficients in a JPEG to hide information. A newer method (http://www.know.comp.kyutech.ac.jp/BPCSe/BPCSe-principle.html) embeds data in visually insignificant parts of an image. Both of these methods alter the image; however, you can explore image degradation using different images and messages of varying length. An alternative, specific to GIF images, is to manipulate an image�s palette in order to hide data. Gifshuffle (http://www.darkside.com.au/gifshuffle/) does not alter the image itself in any visible way; rather, it permutes a GIF image�s color map, leaving the original image completely intact

Analogy and Digital Filter

An analog-to-digital (A/D) converter is an electronic circuits that are built into the recording amplifiers or between the amplifiers and recording devices. An A/D converter usually has the function of filtering signals. In contrast to the analogy filter, a digital filter applies the filtering after the signals are discreteised.

Basis of Signal Filtering

This section will mention four concepts, the pass, gain, alias and phase.

There are four basic types of filters, the high pass, the low pass, the band pass, and the band stop. Each attenuates different range of frequencies.

High pass attenuates low frequency
Low pass attenuates high frequency
Band stop attenuates a certain range of frequency. Notch filters belong to this category. It filters out 50 or 60 Hz.
Band pass attenuates above and below a certain range of frequency

A gain function can be divided into three band:

pass band: the frequency range that is mostly retained
stop band: the frequency range that little energy is passed
transition band: the frequency range that the gain is intermediate.

Gain is the ratio of output amplitude to input amplitude. Gain function is the relation between gain and frequency. Sometimes, power is used instead of amplitude. Importantly power does not equal to amplitude.

Aliasing refers to a problem that signal frequencies are too high to be represented accurately at a given sampling rate.

Frequencies within the transition band are usually called cutoff or corner frequency (( f_c )). The definition of cutoff frequency (( f_c )) depends on the unit to express the frequency, octave or decade.

decade (a ten-fold change in frequency)

EE literature defines usually ( f_c ) consistently as the half-power frequency, the frequency within the transition band where the gain is .5. In this case, the gain is defined as the ratio of output power to input power.

In decibles, a gain of .5 equals to -3.0103 dB, because a ratio in decibels is ten times the logarithm to base 10 of the ratio of two power quantities[2]. So, 3 dB down refers to half of the power at a specific frequency is attenuated.

Many of us have had troubles trying to install correctly a fingerprint reader on a computer. Ill show you all how easy it is and it WILL work fine! Even with Firefox!

1) First UNINSTALL all software and DDK (validity drivers)....

Make sure you also go to Control Panel => Device Manager => Validity Sensor

UNINSTALL the sensor and check "delete the driver software for this device"

2) Then make sure you REBOOT

3) Download and Install Validity drivers from HP

1-sp48509.exe

4) REBOOT AGAIN ... it is important

5) Download Digital Persona ver 4.11.3805 from link below

6) RUN the Setup.exe

When it asks to install driver for finger print reader (the first dialog you get when you run the setup.exe)

DO NOT click INSTALL

Leave the installation window as it is...

7) Open windows explorer by pressing win+E

8) Go to

C:UsersUsername AppDataLocalTemp

click the column "Date Modified" to sort the last modified files first in the list

You will have a folder with {05B54AFA-28C6-4FED-A0E6-3F235641DA1D } <==== EXAMPLE only it will be different on your computer

Go in the folder and you will see some ini files with a file named "fingerprint reader drivers.prq"

open "fingerprint reader drivers.prq" in notepad.exe

Delete all the lines of text in the file "fingerprint reader drivers.prq" and save the empty file.

9) return to Digital Persona setup dialog mentioned in point 6

Now click INSTALL and let it install the software

It will open the same folder again and then continue install...

When it asks to REBOOT click YES

10) After REBOOT the finger print reader is working without a hitch.
