Recently I made a switch from a IBM based 14� laptop to Compaq 15.1� Widescreen laptop. I had never experienced any type of difficulty in running fedora on my old laptop right up to Fedora Core 5. But Fixing screen Resolution on my WideScreen laptop turned out to be a very tiring effort. I wanted to set my screen resolution to 1280x800 which was the highest resolution that was supported but even after setting numerous times from the Graphical Display tool that came preinstalled I was unable to change the resolution it always reverted back to 1024x768 resolution . I tried changing the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file manually but even this did not work so after quiet a bit of googling around I found a solution to my problem and here it is.
First i changed the Display to a Generic LCD Panel 1280x800 after changing this is what my xorg.conf file looked like

Then the main part I downloaded a tool called 915resolution that modifies the Video Bios of 800 and 900 series intel video-chipsets making temporary changes to include a number of video modes not supported

After downloading it I extracted the tool into the /usr/bin directory after becoming the superuser though it can be extracted to any other directory you wish.
First I Displayed a list of available video modes :-
915resolution �l
There was no 1280x800 mode in the list hence I had to insert it .
So what I did was issue command
915resolution 38 1280 800 24
here 38 is the mode number i want to override 24 is the color bits I want. An important thing to note here is that this change is temporary hence will be forgotten by computer once computer is switched off/ Restarted hence I add the following command to /etc/rc.local
/usr/bin/915resolution 38 1280 800 24
This is how my /etc/rc.local file looked like

touch /var/lock/subsys/local

and restarted the computer and voila I was thrown into my new 1280x800 video mode .

Allo stesso modo, l�idea che basti portare a bordo qualche Samsung Galaxy Note 7 (che prende fuoco spontaneamente) oppure un po� di telefonini con batteria al litio rimovibile e cortocircuitabile per ottenere un effetto Samsung analogo non pare aver stimolato riflessioni di buon senso.
Senza iPad e laptop, le ore di un volo intercontinentale verso gli Stati Uniti diventeranno un incubo per chiunque viaggi per lavoro ed � abituato a far fruttare le ore passate in aereo lavorando al computer. Certo, si pu� decidere di dormire o di leggere o guardare qualche film, ma resta il problema che il computer/tablet va stivato, con tutti i rischi di danneggiamento e di furto che questo comporta. In pratica, molti saranno costretti a lasciare a casa il computer e arrivare alla meta informaticamente nudi. Quella presentazione da rifinire all�ultimo minuto? Scordatevela: dovrete portarla su una chiavetta USB e procurarvi un computer sul posto (che avr� una tastiera USA, senza accentate; e pregate che abbia una versione di software compatibile con la vostra).
I dispositivi proibiti non sono solo laptop e tablet: sono vietati in cabina anche giochi elettronici, libri digitali, lettori DVD, scanner, stampanti e fotocamere. Le uniche eccezioni riguardano i dispositivi medici essenziali. Prima che ci pensiate: no, dire che il laptop � un dispositivo medicale perch� � lunica cosa che impedisce di impazzire stando nove ore pigiati come sardine, con bambini che piangono incessantemente e cibo di gomma, non � una giustificazione che le imperscrutabili autorit� accoglieranno facilmente.

Compaq Presario CQ56 115DX Laptop Review
This notebook is powered by the AMD-V series (model V140) processor. This is a single-core, 64-bit processor running at 2.3 GHz. It has 512KB of L2 cache and was built using a 45nm process. This chip has 25W profile. This system comes with 2 GB of DDR3 system memory. This is on the low side, allowing the processor matches.
The display is a 15.6-inch diagonal High Definition HP LED BrightView display with a resolution of 1366 x 768. The screen is driven by ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 graphics card. It has 256MB dedicated memory and can lead to 893MB dynamically allocated shared graphics memory. Shared memory slows your system down during graphic-intensive processes like games, but with the processor and memory that you do not buy this to play games.
Like the graphics card and processor, the hard disk is a low-end too. It is a 250GB Serial ATA (SATA) 5400RPM spin on. This will be enough for a majority of people, but it would be nice to have something bigger. The optical drive is an 8x SuperMulti DVD ± R/RW with Double Layer Support. This laptop does not come with a media reader slot.
To get a 10/100Base-T Ethernet network LAN adapter accessible through a standard RJ-45 connector. For wireless you get a built-in high-speed wireless LAN adapter is compatible with 802.11 b/g/n. External ports are 3 high-speed USB 2.0 ports, 1 VGA port, a headphone jack and 1 microphone jack.

This is a good midrange entry from Sony. I like that the body is made of a Magnesium alloy, it really feels sturdy to the touch and stays very cool. It is fairly light weight for a 15.4 inch Laptop and has a good low profile. The battery life however seems to be about average.
The good news though is that it is a fairly powerful laptop. The 2.0ghz T7250 is a great processor and enables the user to do a great deal of multitasking. The video card is integrated and derives its video memory from the system memory, so the 2GB of RAM gets a little stretched. Youll be able to play medium intensity games, but dont expect to crank up the graphics to 11 and see smooth rendering. Though since it is a mid range laptop I hope that no one intends on doing that anyway.
The storage space is good, you can get about as many songs and movies as I would expect you would need at one time on the 250GB drive. That being said I would immediately clear out much of Sonys preinstalled trial ware. Much of it runs in the system tray or background and slows things down. Many of the programs dont even offer much that isnt already included in Windows Vista to begin with. It is just a nuisance and Sony is notorious for it.[www.associatedcontent.com]

ASUS N550JV DB72T 15 6 Inch Touchscreen Laptop
Ok, so for about the past 3 months Ive been researching various laptops at around 1k for my first year of college.
This was the first one to have everything I wanted-
4th gen Haswell Quad Core
Good enough battery life
Touch Screen at 1920x1080
A good enough dedicated graphics card (gt750m)
The reason i give this 3 stars are because of various flaws I found with it.
The first one I ordered got here in a day. It was a amazing computer, well built, good audio, great screen, battery life. The nvida card was giving me trouble and after a session of Crysis 2, the gt750ms driver reported error code 043, which essentialy means it died. I sent it back and got a new one same day from amazon and starting dealing with new issues.
My new issues were the 5400rpm hard-drive and the networking card.
The HDD is just too slow for my tastes, Ive grown up on 7200rpm emachines and have a OCZ solid state drive in my desktop. it is simply too slow and I plan on replacing it if I can stay within warranty.
The Networking card (Qualcom Artheros Ar9485wb-eg) is also really slow. It takes a full minute to download 1000kb of data. Both the original and the replacement had this issue. i use either wired now or use a usb wifi adapter. Again if I can manage to stay within warranty I will replace it with something better.
Now for the better stuff.
I really like the gt750m nvidia card, it can handle most games at the same graphics of todays 7th gen consoles.
Review about ASUS N550JV-DB72T 15.6-Inch Touchscreen Laptop
First off, I bought this laptop from another vendor, and cannot comment on Amazons shipping or service. However, after owning this product for about a month, I can comment on the laptop.Pros:
-Top-of-the-line 4th gen Core i7 processor
-Brand new, dedicated video card
-absolutely massive hard drive
-keyboard w/ backlight
-Full HD touchscreen display with IPS technology (very wide viewing angles)
-excellent build quality
Cons:
-hard drive is only 5400 RPM
-keyboard backlight is not perfect
-gets a little warm with heavy use
-it doesnt make me pancakes
Conclusion:
This really is an excellent laptop, especially for the price. For a little more than $1000, it offers you a slew of high-end components inside a well-built, attractive casing. For some more money, you could get a laptop with a higher resolution screen (Macbook Pro Retina) or with slightly better components (Razer Blade) but theres really no reason to unless youre a hardcore gamer or have a need for ultra-high resolution displays. The touchscreen makes Windows 8 infinitely more enjoyable, and makes me wonder why people ever complained about it. The hard drive, while massive, is a bit slow, and seems to occasionally bottleneck the system during some intensive tasks. However, during most use cases, this is a non-issue, and is easily rectified( Just buy yourself a faster hard drive). .
